2025 means it’s time for a new space…
I have decided to work with Substack as my primary writing distribution channel. I have reviewed and tried a number of different tools and social media sites to find a place where I can blow off some steam, practice my writing and media skills (because I need more practice) and share them into the ether and hopefully with you.
Why here? Why now?
I am really looking forward to 2025. My key goals for this year:
Better physical and mental shape
More travel
More family time
New job
Build out the community base and awareness of pancreatic cancer through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
More writing, more writing, more writing…etc.
It has been a challenge trying to find a job: my age and 5 years out of the workforce seem to be real barriers to getting back into the game…for now. Yes, there it is: I said it, age seems to be a factor for many hiring employers and the digital barriers between potential hires and companies…Being honest, I’m not angry: it’s definitely their prerogative, but I know, there’s a plethora of wise, experienced talent struggling to get a chance - more on this another time. While I wait for my chance, I am spending my time on the goals above, and a volunteer role with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network as the Affiliate Chair in Phoenix Arizona. My hope is to raise awareness, increase support and plan the annual walk to raise funds in April. Stay tuned for more on this and my journey through 2025 and beyond.
What you can expect from this space
I plan to provide you a collection of insightful essays on diverse topics based on my human experience. I will explore the key questions I grapple with, my preferred methodologies and approaches for navigating life while exposing the underlying philosophical framework guiding my explorations.
Core Themes and Motifs
Throughout my writing, I will attempt to display a deep curiosity about the nature of reality and consciousness, the impact of technology on our lives, and the potential of growth and openness to shape my future. I take every opportunity to interweave my personal experiences with historical context and philosophical insights to present a holistic view on the topics I explore.
Prominent threads that run through my work:
A healthy skepticism towards blind technological determinism.
Acknowledging the transformative potential of technology, while questioning uncritical adoption.
Consider the broader societal and ethical implications of technological advancements and to actively shape their trajectory towards positive outcomes.
A strong fascination with consciousness, its origins, and potential evolution.
I love philosophical debates surrounding consciousness and exploring its connection to various aspects of the human experience – from free will and morality to our understanding of reality.
I believe in the importance of deconstructing existing beliefs and assumptions, challenging conventional wisdom and uncovering the hidden biases that shape our perception of reality.
By shedding preconceptions, I believe, I can access a broader understanding of myself and the world around me.
I will do my best to be engaging and thought-provoking, and will encourage dialogue and critical engagement, hoping you question established narratives and consider alternative perspectives. I believe in the the value of a multidisciplinary approach, drawing insights from philosophy, science, and personal experiences to create a holistic picture of the complex issues.
Furthermore, I plan to explore self-awareness and critical reflection. My essays will encourage us to examine our own motivations, biases, and limitations in order to participate more authentically and meaningfully in the world. By understanding ourselves better, we can engage with others with empathy and engage in more productive forms of dialogue and interaction.
Philosophical Underpinnings
Underlying my exploration of technology, consciousness, and human behavior is a framework rooted in critical thinking, skepticism, and a deep appreciation for human experience. My experience resonates with diverse schools of thought, including existentialism, phenomenology, stoicism and a little bit of postmodernism.
I am definitely concerned with the human condition and my search for meaning in an uncertain world. I believe in individual agency, responsibility and how they align with existential ideals of personal authenticity and freedom.
I am eager to understand my lived experience, being introspective and reflecting on potential pathways towards understanding the subjective world.
I have no issue challenging the grand narratives and advocating for the plurality of perspectives and interpretations while respecting the value of lived experience and conventional wisdom.
I invite you on this journey of “thinking out loud” to inspire thought-provoking ideas, challenging perspectives, and hopefully witty observations, urging all of us to question, contemplate, and ultimately, participate more consciously in our own lives. At 56 years old, I believe there is so much more to learn, so much more room to grow and I am blessed and grateful to be able to share this with you… #morelove
